More from Chomsky on the ‘08 presidential election
2008 October 20
Click here for a video interview with Noam Chomsky on the presidential election. While he has argued for years that the political system of the united states has one party—the Business Party—which has two factions, to hold the view that there are no differences at all between these two factions is to ignore the ways in which the the differing policies do in fact have an effect on people’s lives. Like his friend and fellow anarchist Howard Zinn, Chomsky suggests voting for Barack Obama, but without illusions, as he is clearly the lesser of two evils. Chomsky’s reflections on why universal health care has become “politically possible” are particularly insightful.

Thanks for the link to the interview. I had to put it up on my site. Chomsky is one of my intellectual heroes.
i have done my part in electing the lesser of two evils. and i didn’t even have to break the ballot machine. :)
does this mean you’re voting? do you vote? I always thought you didn’t vote.

Evan! – I did vote. Sent my absentee ballot in on Saturday. Maybe I should do a post on why I chose to vote.
the anarchists are voting! this will surely result in… anarchy!
I think you should do a post on why you chose to vote.
though “sarah palin is terrifying” would suffice.

Hey,
Remember me? I commented on your site/email corresponded with you and then haven’t stopped by in a while (I was moving states and then offline for a while). First, congratulations on your beautiful baby, Second, I thought I was going to vote for Obama and more or less endorsed him on my blog (with predictable reservations). Then, I talked to a friend and found out that he is more pro-abortion than most democrats and, specifically, that he is in favor of repealing the Hyde amendment, which got me worried, so I emailed a friend of mine (who happens to be a brilliant Catholic philosophy PhD student and mother) for help, and she is going 3rd party she thinks, so I got stressed about whether or not I ought to vote at all. So I wanted you to know, that your site/thoughts and comments on Obama and voting have been very helpful as I’m wrestling through all this. And I’d love to hear about why you chose to vote. Thanks.
