Rev. Arnold Conrad’s prayer at McCain rally
by m
According to the opening prayer evangelical preacher Arnold Conrad offered at a McCain rally on Oct. 11th, John McCain is God’s candidate, and God must “guard his (sic) own reputation” against believers in “other” “gods, like Hindu (sic), Buddah (sic), and Allah” by allowing McCain to be elected president.

Yuck, that is just sick. Wow.
I’m surprised that you omitted Conrad’s blatant disregard for the second commandment: that he takes God’s name in vain by insisting that he support McCain, lets his reputation be sullied. This seems far more egregious to me than insinuating that non-Christians are bad.
Adam – That criticism is certainly implied in what I said. While I didn’t reference the 2nd commandment explicitly, that was certainly my main motivation for the post. :)
I see. I took the comments about non-Christians to be the main thrust of your criticism. Also, the guys with rifles behind him are kind of creepy.
It also suggests that Obama is not Christian and neither are any of his supporters; that only those who support McCain are Christians.
This alleged prayer, which invokes the blessing of God for one particular candidate is really quite embarrassing. In fact, this prayer is really quite creepy.
This video is merely the latest evidence of the long and tragic history of our Christian religion blessing the horrors of war and the imperial State religion. It displays the worst of simplisitic American piety and religiosity. There is a kind of patriotic jingoism evident here, within the visual context of the military guards, the flag etc. which absolutely flies in the face of our professed credal faith in One God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Where do they get these people?
Here is the big problem for the preacher. God grants prayers that are according to His “will” and according to His “content” even though sometimes He allows an evil to fall upon us 4 a gr8er good. So if the content of the unbelievers prayer be right than they pray according to “morality” at least. Although this man falls into the common Christian fault of thinking that being guided by th Holy Spirit means leaving all exercise of reason behind. I do not know the absolute grand scheme of things but I know that I am voting independent this season.
I guess God put in his vote…
