The Christian Radical reported today that Tamar Hennessey, the daughter of Dorothy Day, died today after recently suffering a stroke. The Radical also passed along this 2003 NCR article about Tamar.
Thank you for posting the article. I have always wondered about her and her thoughts on her mother, mainly because I wondered how Dorothy did it. We are parents and are super active serving our Church and community and I wonder if my child is neglected by it. She usually comes with us. Still, the guilt is present. The article was outstanding.
wow, thanks, mikey. i hadn’t read anything about this issue, and, like rcm above, there’s always that nagging question of how beany will react when she is older. i suppose that this says, more than anything, that we do our best to make it work, and, at some point, we have to let our kids grow up, hope and pray for the best, and respect who they become.
I recently discovered that Dorothy Day and my grandmother were distant cousins and I wish I had a chance to talk to her and to Tamar. Not only because they are cousins, but because of their fascinating lives. If there are any relatives willing to contact me about the Day family, please contact me at email@example.com.
